Righting an Old Wrong

I'd like to say things like 'I'm proud of you' -- which I am -- but it would seem like I'm sticking an official lable of my Moral Approval on this thing of which I have no idea. I have only vague ideas about the NRA, and it would somehow seem like I am patting a Papua on the back who has denounced headhunting. If you know what I mean... I'm just saying I am proud of you for following your own beliefs with such firm steps. Hey Dave!

I don't think I ever told you this Davy...
Davy's dad, my brother, he was a Colonel. Don graduated from West Point way at the top of his class. I remember when Davy was a little boy and it was Christmas and I was shopping with Don for something for Davy and I found a cap gun, or one... of those Space pistols that fires sparks, something like that, and I asked Don if I could get this for Davy.
Don said "No, we don't believe in toy guns. Guns aren't toys."
At the time I thought it was a funny way to be, I'd grown up playing cops and robbers and army, I had toy guns everywhere when i was a little boy.
Anyway, what Don said makes more sense to me these days.

Good for you, Dave. I'm ambivalent on the gun issue (I like firing them off, but not at living things), but overall I think (1) America's fascination with firearms is both frightening and hypocritical and (2) you're doing your family a favor by keeping them away from guns. Anyway, that's my half-cent's worth on the subject. UF MIKE
