Policy Memo - Post and Entry

A blog is a weblog which is a form of log. Logs have entries, not posts. From now on, DMG Gibberish Solutions will use the noun "entry" to refer to blog entries because that's what they are. While it might be technically correct to use the verb enter to refer to the act of entering an entry, it sucks stylistically. For this reason, DMG Gibberish Solutions will use the verb "post" to refer to the act of entering an entry. Employees caught using the word post to refer to an entry or the word entering to refer to the act of posting will be subject to discipline according to company policy up to and including possible termination. Thank you for your cooperation in this matter.

Bootstrapping is the practice of estimating properties of an estimator (such as its variance) by measuring those properties when sampling from an approximating distribution. One standard choice for an approximating distribution is the empirical distribution of the observed data. In the case where a set of observations can be assumed to be from an independent and identically distributed population, this can be implemented by constructing a number of resamples of the observed dataset (and of equal size to the observed dataset), each of which is obtained by random sampling with replacement from the original dataset.

Carl, dude, you just gave me a nosebleed.

Dave, you should be more careful with your internal distribution documents. Somebody obviously leaked this one to the general public. With unfortunate consequences for your business model, as it reveals important trade secrets, which I intend to use on my blog, thereby turning it into an international success and making me a multimillionaire.

But worry not. You will always be welcome on my yacht. Which I plan to call The HMS I'm Rich, Ha!

Great post!

Sorry for taking so long to get back to you, Carl, but it's taken me this long to process the unfathomnable brilliance of your statistical insight. I admit, though, that when I saw your comment starting with the word bootstrapping, the first thought to flash through my mind was: "Oh no! That poor little Jew!"

What's up, Carl? Good to see you!

Mike, utilize my trade ideas at your own risk. My track record pretty much sucks! Like the time when I thought delivering excellent quality lawn care for a good price with convenient billing and excellent communication with my one client. I tried that and got my head handed to me! But yeah, knock yourself out. Next I'll post our breast feeding policy!

Excellent lawn care! What an absurd idea!
